First time I installed Siebel 8.0 on my new laptop and tried opening Sample Dedicated client but system prompt a message saying that :
"Your version of the Siebel High Interactivity Framework for IE, required for use of this Siebel application, may not be current. In order to download a current version of the Siebel High Interactivity Framework, please ensure that your browser security settings are correct and then log in to the application again. Consult your system administrator for details about the Siebel High Interactivity Framework and correct browser settings"
Now, this seems very easy as it was just asking for download it and everybody know when you open Siebel client for the first time, it automatically get downloaded on to the machine.
But, now let me tell what was the issue I was facing and how I got rid of it. When this message was appearing in, a bar was appearing under the Address bar in the Internet Explorer (to install the ActiveX Control) which requires a click so that it can install the Siebel High Interactivity framework (SHIF), but I was not able to click on that because at that moment the popup message was on screen with the "Ok" button. Once I click on "Ok" Siebel client gets closed since SHIF was not there. Again tried opening Siebel client, again the same message with Ok Button and the bar was appearing at the top of the screen where I can't click. Clicked on "OK", Siebel client got closed...... frustration!!!!
I thought it was due to some pop-up blocker or something, so I tried to change the browser settings but didn't get rid of it. Finally got one trick by which it got resolved. Here it is :
While opening Siebel Client, keep pressing "Ctrl" button on the keyboard and observe the difference. This time I didn't get the prompt message and automatically it prompt with the message of installing the SHIF and I clicked on Install and everything worked fine after that..... no issues.
.

Now with IE7 browser the addresss bar and back and forward buttons appear together in one frame and users started to complain that they are not able to see the back , forward button. Can anybody help me with an option to show the back, forward buttons in IE7. Thanks!

ReplyDeleteHi Ramuk and Anonymous,
ReplyDeletewhich Siebel version are you guys working on?
Wow. There's a special place in heaven for you. Thanks thanks thanks
ReplyDeleteThanks a lot, very useful.
ReplyDeleteGreat tip !
ReplyDeleteHi Ramuk, this update is for you, I tried this tip with IE 8 and it worked pretty well for me. Please try it again !!
ReplyDeleteHigh Interactivity Framework has been really a source of lot of problems in Siebel and it is difficult to debug the problems cause by it because it resides outside Siebel. Some of the reasons for High Interactivity Framework to get corrupted are
ReplyDelete* Different version of jar files reside on same PC
* Accessing different instances of application from same system
* Having multiple JRE versions instances on same system
The basic process to reinstall the High Interactivity Framework has been described in the following post.
Thankyou for the information 8GB SD Karte!!
ReplyDeletei have a question : does siebel suppoprt google chrome browser? if Yes then what configuration changes needs to be done to use google chrome?
ReplyDeleteMay GOD bless you with more insights so as to help us mere mortals in future too
ReplyDeleteHi Garima.... IE has been certified by Oracle to access Siebel and SHIF (specifically for IE) comes into picture when you run any Siebel application. If you try to open Siebel application in chrome, it will not work at all since no activeX (like SHIF for IE) is available today which can help understand response from Siebel Server and display it accordingly in Chrome browser.
ReplyDeleteHi GG, I tried opening client in IE8. SHIF got installed but just after that browser is getting crash. one another window is opening stating that "IE stopped working". tried ur trick as well but couldn't succeed. kindly help for this.
ReplyDeletePragya Agrawal
Hi Pragya, I did try in IE 8.0 and worked fine for me. The only thing I can suspect here is which java version you have.
ReplyDeletewhen I run the following command
C:\> java -version
I got :
java version "1.5.0_06"
Java(TM) 2 Runtime Environment, Standard Edition (build 1.5.0_06-b05)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 1.5.0_06-b05, mixed mode, sharing)
Any version equal and greater than this should work. If you are using old version, please get it upgraded.
Also do delete the old SHIF before opening the new browser and see it works. Good Luck !!
Its a good one. After 2 days i got it and worked fine on my PC. Thank's a lot
ReplyDeleteHi GG,
ReplyDeleteI checked the java version. its 1.6.0_11. but still i am getting the same problem. My laptop have Vista operating system. i hope that is not causing any problem. Kindly Help.
Thanks in Advance
Pragya
Hi Pragya, I never tried it on Vista and I don't think if it really matters. you need to try few things here.
ReplyDeletea) Get IE7 installed on your laptop (with VISTA operating system) and try.
b) Get IE8 on some other machine (may be with Win XP) and try.
I think this way you can figure out where exactly the problem is. Please go thru Document ID 796015.1 on supportweb.
Good Luck !
Perfect !! works for me now. thanks a ton!

ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI am installing Siebel with IE8, i am getting a wiered error, a yellow traingle appears on the left side corner of the browser that says, nvaigator.SWE_historykeys_1268*** is null or not an object, what does this error mean? how to resolve this, alternatively i dont see Java in the Advanced tab of Internet Options window, any relation?
Thank you. It might work.
ReplyDeleteIt worked well on XP + IE6 combination, but the browser is crashing if we try to launch on Windows 7 + IE8 combination.
ReplyDeleteWorked for me on IE6 - Thin Client. Thanks.
ReplyDeleteAt last I found a way to correct this issue!
ReplyDeletemany thanks
We are testing Siebel 7.8.2.14 (after applying IE 8 QF) with winXP & IE8. Getting similar errors on IE crashes and donwload issues on Siebel HI client.
ReplyDeleteHow did you correct the issue? Any help is appreciated.
Wow!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Thanks a lot... :)
ReplyDeletethank you very very much.. you just saved my day
ReplyDeleteThis did not work for IE8 Running on Windows7. SHIF is loaded but still crashes. Here is what is strange: SHIF is loaded, but when starting Siebel, the yellow warning ribbon under the address bar will still ask if I want to load the SHIF. However, as soon as this bar appears, IE crashes. I know that the SHIF is loaded, and I have enabled it for all sites. Very strange. I have seen this on 2 Windows7 machines.
ReplyDeleteThank you to the original poster! This saved me
ReplyDeleteIf you would put Siebel in your trusted sites, and then set the trusted site security zone to default, you would not have to hold down ctrl. This "fix" is a workaround for a known Siebel active-X installation that occurs when you initially access it.
ReplyDeleteIts really working... Thank you.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much...I wasted almost an hours time before I came across this blog...
ReplyDeleteThis workaround is just amazing...Too good...So simple yet so effective...
-Paresh Deshmukh

ReplyDeletethank you ***so*** much. i was about to go homicidal!
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI am trying to access siebel using IE6 on Win XP SP3. I get same errror as in GG's original post above.
Initially, I enter user id & password then click login.
I then get a popup that says Launching Siebel,
then another popup prompting "Do you want to install this software" Name : Siebel Option Pack for IE.
When I click on "Install:, the popup then disappears and I get the error message -
Your version of the Siebel High Interactivity Framework for IE, required for use of this Siebel application, may not be current. In order to download a current version of the Siebel High Interactivity Framework, please ensure that your browser security settings are correct and then log in to the application again. Consult your system administrator for details about the Siebel High Interactivity Framework and correct browser settings.
When I click OK, it returns me back to Siebel logon screen.
Can GG/some one please advise what needs to be done for this software install to go through. Thanks :)
Vijay.
great post, and interesting discussion.
ReplyDeleteI am wondering if anybody found a workaround of the Win 7 and IE8 crashing issue.
I am also wondering if anybody found a solution of installing the HIC with standard user rights.
Thanks!
we also had the issue with IE8 crashing on Windows 7 when trying to install the Siebel 7.7.2.12.
ReplyDeleteAfter putting the Intranet address of the Siebel Server in the IE trusted locations it worked. However we had to trust more or less the whole Intranet:
http://siebel.intranet.com did not solve the issue.
http://*.intranet.com as a trusted site fixed the issue.
Thank You, Your method really worked like magic as said earlier and my IE stopped crashing.. Thank God I can work frm home now :)
DeleteThank you so much! I have been so frustrated with it but your method worked like magic!
ReplyDeleteThank you so much! its greate work
ReplyDeleteHoly crap, that actually did the trick. Genius...

ReplyDeleteI forgot to tell you, I tried with
ReplyDeletewindows 7 64bit

the above trick is not worked for me. fine. i installed 8.0.8 patch then siebel frame work installed without issues. its workng fine.
Thanks for the post!!! It helped me. i appreciate it.
ReplyDeleteI work with Siebel CRM v.8, I had this same problem and after Lowering the IE SECURITY SETTINGS to absolute minimum by custom settings, the Siebel app started normally. This is weird since it used to work OK with previous "medium level" security settings.
ReplyDeleteTQ for d info...it helped me to get online with the Siebel Network! ;)
ReplyDeleteTHANKS BUDDY ITS VERY COOL SOLUTION, THANKS TO BE CONTINUED
ReplyDeleteI struck with following error!
ReplyDelete'Sysfader.exe: IExplore.exe' Application error
Browser: IE8
Siebel Version: 7.8
Operating System: Win XP SP2
Any help is most appreciated!
This "Ctrl" trick allowed me to get into CAS on a Mac. I am using VMWare Fusion 3 to run Windows 7 64 bit with IE 8. I did need to make sure the JAVA version was updated to avoid the crashing issue others have reported with IE.
ReplyDeleteHi my name is Eugenia,
ReplyDeleteI have Siebel 8.0 and service. I tried to enter the ctrl key trick to no avail. I use Windows 7. Can you help me?
I'm running it on W2K8 R2 x64 bit....
ReplyDeletepressing "CTRL" button helped me get past that annoying screen about the active "X".
Shortly aftwards then the communication toolbar had an issue installing.
And then "BOOOM" it hit me, I never installed Java on this machine.
So, my resolution was a combined effort between both "CTRL" button and "Java" install.
thanks
So I finally got my Siebel 8 to work on my Windows 7/IE8 via VPN to work after many many times of watching my browser crash. I did the CTRL trick first, then enable all the Active X in the Internet Options, downloaded the latest Java AND rebooted my laptop. No dice. Then I finally added the URL as a Trusted Site and that seemed to do the trick. Hope everyone got through it like me.
ReplyDeleteThanks. It is a very good article...
ReplyDeleteWhy is risk and uncertainty framework much more relevant to the current and existing economic issues?
ReplyDeleteThank you, this was really helpful.
ReplyDeleteThanks.
thanks very helpful
ReplyDeleteDoes Siebel 8 work on IE8 with the search toolbar that now appears to be hard coded on the address bar of IE 8?
ReplyDeleteIn IE6 we were asked to remove the search toolbar as it used to cause performance issues and stop MVGs from openeing up, but was wondering if this has been fixed as IE 8 has now this search toolbar that appears automatically and that it's not easy to get rid of.
thanks for reading this!
Thank you for the tip !
ReplyDeleteman, thanks a lot from Russia
ReplyDeletehttp://*.intranet.com as a trusted site fixed the ie8 crash issue in Win 7. Thank you anonymous poster from Sept 23rd.
ReplyDeleteHi,
ReplyDeleteI am running Siebel 8.1.1 Sample (in XP2 compatiable mode) with IE 7.0.6001.18000, Cipher strength: 256 bit in Windows Vista (Enterprise Edition, Service Pack 1). I have two machines with identical browser settings and having administrator priviledges in both. In one of them, Siebel is running fine and downloaded Siebel HI framework successfully. In other machine, when ever I am trying to log in, it comes up with the same pop up message
"Your version of the Siebel High Interactivity Framework for IE, required for use of this Siebel application,
may not be current. In order to download a current version of the Siebel High Interactivity Framework, please ensure that your browser security settings are correct and then log in to the application again. Consult your system administrator for details about the Siebel High Interactivity Framework and correct browser settings."
When I click OK, it closes the IE.
For your reference, I have added the URL to trusted site of both the machines. In the 1st machine the siebel page is showing as "Trusted Zone". In the second machine, during loading of siebel it is showing as "Unknown Zone" and after that the error pop up is appearing. Host files for both the machines are identical.
I am confused over the whole thing and having no clue why this is happening. Both the machines are responding ok with any other external activeX contol. Also pressing control during siebel loading does not help.
Please let me know a solution for it.
Run IE8 in compatibility mode and it should be ok.. (mostly)
ReplyDeleteTo all those who report that IE8 still crashes after installing the HI client, you need to add your local machine to the trusted sites in your Local Intranet zone in IE8. This is under the "Security" tab. I also added "http://localhost" just to be sure.
ReplyDeleteHi - am having a wierd issue that has only just started happening. I have Siebel 8 web client, and sample db installed on my laptop - was working fine last week, but lately when I launch the client the "Launching" popup no longer displays, and i just get a IE error: "Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage". I have IE8.
ReplyDeleteAny ideas?
Many thanks
Please let me know how can I work with AICTE web portal having a machine with Windows 7 and IE 8. It is not allowing me to instal Siebel 8. To my opinion teh security settings I ahve done are right
ReplyDeleteIf the browser is getting crashed even after installing the SHIF...add the url to the trusted site list..it worked for me..thanks to all..
ReplyDeleteyes..this works
ReplyDeleteI attempted the colution and the program was installed, however IE stops working as the application begins to load. Any suggestions?
ReplyDeleteJust checked. It works on IE8 as well. Thanks for the post
ReplyDeletei have the same problem like kristin... pls help...
ReplyDeletePlease try this:
ReplyDeleteIn Internet Explorer -> Internet Tools -> Security -> Trusted Sites -> Sites.
"Add this website to the zone" should have the website name. Click on "Add"
and make sure "Require server verification (https:) for all sites in this zone" is NOT Checked.

You're the boss!
ReplyDeleteHi
ReplyDeleteI had a slightly different issue because of which Siebel Hi Interactive Client Framework was not installing. Siebel 8.x was installed as a 32 bit application on Windows 7 which is a 64 bit OS.
I was able to launch Dedicated Web Client with Siebel High Interactivity Framework getting installed seperately as a standalone but when trying to invoke thru Tools->Debug it was giving me the same error as in this post. The reason was in the Tools->View->Options->Debug —> browser selection I had seleted the Internet Explorer icon under Program Files whereas I should actually have selected IE Explorer icon under Program Files(x86) folder.
Choosing the IE Explorer under the right folder solved the issue.
Hope this helps other folks.
.
yupped sure did help me too :)
DeleteEventually !!!
DeleteOMGGGGGG THANKSSSSSSSSSSSS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
ReplyDeleteGenius!!!! This has been a problem for months! Thank you very much.
ReplyDeleteThanks...you are a genius! tried everything to make Siebel7 client worked for Windows9/IE9 with current security and update patches (Jan 2, 2012). Your solution worked so flawlessly, and your reasoning for the ctrl key is clear logic! Why those Siebel expert never thought/tried this? Save a lot of time! Thanks again!
ReplyDeleteThanks...genius! The best solution for Windows7/IE9!

ReplyDeleteHi, I have installed the required SHIF. The Siebel screen open succesfully...However, while navigating the pages in Siebel screen, the page stops responding. The cursor keeps on waiting and revolving. I am novice to Siebel. Kindly help !!
ReplyDeleteHey Guys,
ReplyDeleteThis was really helpful topic. i just did some research and found that pressing teh Ctrl kep, its a shortcut to disable popup blocker as long as you are holding it in a web browser.
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/843016
So, this was the trick :).
In our project as well, we had a scenario where users get those error messages and they were not able to get past the error messages. We figured(with Support web info) that there are specific settings in IE which blocks the SHIF to be downloaded and installed on a system (esp on Windows 7). After making those changes, we were able to login without any issues.
@Bijay: Open IE, Go to Tools>Internet Options>Programs and Click on "Make Default" to make IE default browser. Currently SHIF does not work on other explorers, per my knowledge.
ReplyDeleteWorked for me! Closing several incident tickets now! :)
ReplyDeleteGive me solution for Siebel Workshop 8.1 my OS is windows 7 basic 64bit and I.E 9 with servicepack 2 i have done all the settings for siebel to run but i got the message of Your version of the Siebel High Interactivity Framework for IE, required for use of this Siebel application, may not be current. In order to download a current version of the Siebel High Interactivity Framework, please ensure that your browser security settings are correct and then log in to the application again. Consult your system administrator for details about the Siebel High Interactivity Framework and correct browser settings”
ReplyDeleteplease any one can give the solution for this to run the application

DeleteRunning Siebel Web Client
The Web Client – would you Adam and Eve it – doesn’t really support Windows 7. At least, you’ll have trouble with IE8 and I’d suggest putting off installing IE9 for now (and ever):
Edit the Web Client .cfg file for the application you’re working with and edit as follows:
EnableFQDN = FALSE
In Internet Settings, add ‘http://localhost’ as an ‘Intranet’ site. Make sure the security settings for this zone let you do pretty much whatever with Active X controls – this lets the HIFO get in there. Refer to Article ID 1066053.1 on My Oracle Support
If you’re using 64-bit Windows, add the following to your Web Client shortcut (or in the Debug properties in Tools). This ensures that the 32-bit version of IE is in use:
/d Local /b “C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe”
Finally, if you need to amend ODBC settings on 64-bit Windows, don’t forget to use the 32-bit ODBC administrator. The 32-bit Siebel executable will look here, not what you see in the 64-bit ODBC settings:
C:\Windows\SysWoW64\odbcad32.exe
your post is very helpful
ReplyDeletekeep it up....
THANK YOU SO MUCH....
ReplyDeletethis is awesome, it works!
ReplyDeleteThis works good to get connected to Dedicated Client -- Thanks

Working Fine with Windows XP Sp3 32bit + Internet Explorer 8 32bit and Siebel 8.1
Great input :D
Thanks dude. That fixed my problem. One minor point though, I am running 64 bit Windows and defaulted to 64 bit IE, but this trick doesn't work for me. Instead I used the 32 bit version and it worked fine.

ReplyDeleteThanks a ton.... It really works. :)
ReplyDeleteMANY THANKS! I was on a call with tech support for at least an hour and they still could not figure it out.
ReplyDeleteVery good! Worked perfect
ReplyDeleteif IE8 is getting crashed and unable to change internet options just use other browser and get into internet options and change security settings to log / click on custom and allow all active X drivers so that interactive prompt won't come and higher interactive files will get installed automatically.
ReplyDeleteIf using IE8, make sure that you are opening IE in 32 bit mode. 64 bit mode did not work for me.
ReplyDeleteyou are the man...you save my live.. thanks a bunch..
ReplyDeleteIf IE 8.0 being used, make sure your thick client's short cut has the following parameters as Target.
ReplyDeleteC:\Siebel\8.1\Client_1\BIN\siebel.exe /c C:\Siebel\8.1\Client_1\bin\enu\ucm.cfg /b "C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe". Good Luck!
Hi It's not working in IE8, i am getting the error as Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage and it crashes the IE. Could you please some resolution for this. Thanks
ReplyDeleteTry adding the URL to the trusted sites.
DeleteHi Gaurav,
Deletei added the URL in trusted sites and check other necessary parameters (IE settings) after this also this error is coming while opening local client (Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage), please suggest, it is working fine for webclient
Try this, add this below line in [Siebel] section of CFG
DeleteEnableFQDN = FALSE

ReplyDeleteMuito obrigado, cara. Você me ajudou muito!!!
ReplyDeleteHi It's not working in IE10, i am getting the error as Internet Explorer cannot display the webpage and it crashes the IE. Could you please some resolution for this. Thank
ReplyDeleteDear/sir
ReplyDeleteActually I'm not good expart about computer
Internet,
I'm face ing seibel high interactivity forum work
when I try to browsing then showing this message,
"Your version of the Siebel High Interactivity Framework for IE, required for use of this Siebel application, may not be current. In order to download a current version of the Siebel High Interactivity Framework, please ensure that your browser security settings are correct and then log in to the application again. Consult your system administrator for details about the Siebel High Interactivity Framework and correct browser settings"
Please let me know how I change my internet explore setting
I tested the control button but it does not work..I notice that all the while we are testing on 64 bit IE 8 which does not turn out to be working for Siebel, so I tried to switch to 32 bit IE 8 to open the Argus and it works finally. I also un-install the 64 bit JAVA, and re-install 32-bit Java that solve the problem.
ReplyDeleteSo I think 64 bit IE does not work well with both application thus causing such problem
I tested to load both Siebel in 64 bit IE and 32 bit, found out it works only with 32 bit.
me ajudou muito...parabens pela dica...
ReplyDeleteThanks Works like Charm. :-D
ReplyDeleteHi anyway this will work on iPhone? I'm getting the same error and there is no CTRL key.
ReplyDeleteI faced a similar issue today. Our company rolled out a new IE shortcut to our Windows 7 desktops pointing to the 64-bit version of IE which of course prompted the "Your version of the Siebel High Interactivity Framework for IE, required for use of this Siebel application, may not be current. In order to download a current version of the Siebel High Interactivity Framework, please ensure that your browser security settings are correct and then log in to the application again. Consult your system administrator for details about the Siebel High Interactivity Framework and correct browser settings" and using the CTRL key did NOT force or allow IE to download and install the required components. Manually editing the shortcut to point to the 32-bit version of IE (C:\Program Files (x86)\Internet Explorer) allowed the Siebel ActiveX components to download and install as needed.
ReplyDeleteThanks It helps...!!
ReplyDeleteHow about this ?? I am very fed off this app crash while opening crm?
